PhD programme

The structure, organisation, function and evaluation guidelines of the PhD programme of the Department of Communication, Media and Culture, Panteion University, are set by the Departmental PhD Regulation of 2018. The Regulation was instituted by the Departmental Assembly, approved by the Panteion University Senate, and published in the Official Government Gazette of the Hellenic Republic, following the process designated by the 4485/2017 Law for Higher Education.

The department accepts PhD applications twice a year (deadlines for the submission of applications: November 30 and April 30). The thesis may be written in any EU language other than Greek, provided that a departmental member of staff is willing to supervise it. PhD applications must include an outline of the proposed topic of research, the provisional title of the thesis, and the departmental member of staff proposed as supervisor. Applicants are required to have a MA or MSc degree in a field relevant to the interdisciplinary area of Communication, Media and Culture/Cultural Management. A committee chosen by the departmental Assembly evaluates applications and proposes to the Department whether they should be admitted. The Department has the right to require that PhD candidates attend and successfully complete an MA course appropriate to the specialism as prerequisite for carrying out their PhD research.

PhDs are supervised by a three-member supervisory committee. The minimum duration of a PhD degree is 3 years while the maximum is 6 years. Upon completion of the thesis this is examined in a viva voce before a seven-member examination committee. Successfully examined PhD theses may be awarded the following grades: Excellent, Very Good, Good.
